Under the deal announced by President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Julia Gillard in Canberra on Wednesday, Australia will by 2016 regularly play host to a US Marine task force of 2500 troops. More US aircraft will come through RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory, and there are plans for more ships and submarines – including nuclear-powered vessels – to move through the HMAS Stirling Navy base in Western Australia. Discussion about the troop boost began in February 2010 when the US announced its military restructure – known as the global force posture review.

Then just hours after Obama’s Canberra teleprompter speech, this tiny blurb appears in the Australian:

A satellite ground station in Western Australia is being used by the Chinese military to help find Australian and US navy warships, an expert on space-based espionage says.
Professor Des Ball says the government may have inadvertently acted against the national interest by allowing China to use the ground station at Mingenew to track Beijing’s space satellites, The Australian reported on Wednesday.

“This ground station would help China’s space-based listening devices more precisely locate the electronic emissions from aircraft carriers, destroyers and other navy ships,” Mr Ball told paper.

“We’re talking serious stuff here.”

How embarrassing…thankfully the Marines will be here to protect us from the Chinese…maybe they can protect us from Australian government incompetence. This is a perfect example of fear-mongering justifying a geo-political decision.

Tony Cartalucci of the Activist Post describes in detail in, “Globalists’ Australian Nexus ,” it was specifically noted as far back as June 2011 that the Lowy Institute was behind a call for establishing US military bases throughout Australia.

The Australian specifically named the Lowy Institute as one of the unelected “planners” behind making “the case for US Bases.”  As in the recent Lowy Institute affirmation of this policy, Lowy back in June also cited China and the inclusion of Australia in a more aggressive strategy being pursued by Wall Street and London to maintain their financial, economic, and strategic hegemony throughout Asia.

Instead of cultivating a constructive relationship with Asia on our own terms — Australia has now been manipulated through duplicitous self-serving organizations like the Lowy Institute to adopt a stance of confrontation, encirclement, and unsustainable militarism leaving Australians as the first line of defence for Wall Street and London if their house of cards collapses.

Instead, our military is off in far-away Afghanistan fighting Wall Street and London’s wars, expending money, resources, and brave lives that could better serve Australia domestically and regionally.
