As family and friends grieve, the cause of death is in for a 12-year-old taken way too soon while warming up for school basketball practice.
As TribLive in Pittsburgh reports, Jayson Kidd, 12, of Bridgeville, Pa., died of natural causes involving his coronary artery, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The tragedy occurred late Wednesday afternoon during basketball practice at Chartiers Valley Middle School. Jayson collapsed, then was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was not reported whether the school employed any automatic defibrillator devices on the boy.
In establishing a Go Fund Me page for his son’s funeral expenses, Jayson’s father, Jay Kidd, wrote this in part:
“We never expected anything like this to happen to our family. Jayson’s heart stopped during basketball practice, and they could not bring him back.”
