It happens all over the country, and I didn’t really know much about it, but I was shocked to read in the mainstream media that a doctor in Georgia prescribes young children Adderall — even if they don’t have ADHD.
The National Institute of Mental Health has a lengthy list of possible symptoms which actually include:
- Boredom
- Daydreaming
- Impatience
- Interrupting
The American Academy of Pediatrics says that children as young as four can be diagnosed with ADHD and they recommend drugs as early as age six.
Dr. Michael Anderson, a pediatrician in Cherokee County, Georgia, told the New York Times, “I don’t have a whole lot of choice. We’ve decided as a society that it’s too expensive to modify the kid’s environment. So we have to modify the kid.”
Modify the kid? Dr. Nancy Rappaport, of Massachusetts, told them “We are using a chemical straitjacket instead of doing things that are just as important to also do, sometimes more.”
According to the same article, this Dr. Anderson prescribed Adderall to a child named Quintn at age six. At 10-years-old, Quintn began having visual and auditory hallucinations. He also became suicidal. No problem! Dr. Anderson sent him to a mental hospital for a little over a week. When he got out the doctor prescribed him Risperdal, an anti-psychotic, and Clonidine to help him sleep.
That’s at age 10. Imagine how messed up this kid is going to be at 18. This is just one example of millions of children out there being prescribed these drugs. It needs to stop. There are kids who really need help, but this Dr. Anderson admittedly prescribes Adderall to children who simply have bad grades.
If this sick bastard does this, imagine all of the other sick bastards out there who do the same — and the parents that allow it. It’s normal for children to have those symptoms. It’s called being a kid. I’m in my late 20’s, but I’m afraid that one day everyone will view this as normal when it clearly is not.
