The menu at McDonald’s has plenty of options for you, the adventurous fast food diner. But once you’ve sampled everything on it, it might be time to move to the next phase of McDonaldland life: The secret off-menu items. Here are 15 of them, which you can order at any participating McDonald’s (which I’m pretty sure is all of them), even though they don’t appear on the menu.
All American
The “All American” is a former fast food staple that you unfortunately don’t hear much about anymore: The plain hamburger. Adorned with ketchup and pickles, this American classic has gone extinct in many circles thanks to that insidious substance known as “cheese.” But you can still get one if you know how to ask.
Biscuits and Gravy
Available in many of the southern McDonald’s, this southern classic gets the McDonald’s twist. What’s the gravy made out of? Who cares! You’re ordering biscuits and gravy at a McDonald’s, you’re not the type to get picky about ingredients.
Chicken and Waffles
Another revered southern dish, McDonald’s-style. Rather than a waffle with chicken tenders on top, it’s a McGriddles sandwich with McDonald’s chicken crammed into the middle, through some strange and mysterious McAlchemy. Be careful, you may come to prefer it to the original.
Land, Sea and Air Burger
This is basically the Captain Planet of McDonald’s sandwiches. With their powers combined, the hamburger, the McChicken, and the Filet-O-Fish form the Land, Sea and Air burger! And like Captain Planet, it will be fondly remembered and discussed with friends for years afterward even though it probably wasn’t very good.
Fries with Special Sauce
That wonderful “special sauce” that McDonald’s prides itself on isn’t just for the Big Mac. If you ask nicely, you can get gobs of it smothered all over your french fries. Ketchup is officially on life support (see also: you in a few years).
Delicious McDonald’s ice cream lovingly blended with refreshing McDonald’s Coca-Cola. Why isn’t it on the menu? I’m not sure, maybe it’s because it’s too delicious for the general populace to handle safely.
