IBM told its U.S. employees this week that they had until Dec. 8 to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or else they would be suspended without pay.
“As a federal contractor, it is a business imperative for IBM to comply with this mandate,” the company said in a memo sent to employees this week, according to CNBC.
“In light of this requirement, the policies of many of our clients and partners, and the easy access to vaccines around the country, we will now require all IBM U.S. employees to be fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021, in order to work at IBM.”
Unlike other companies, such as United Airlines, IBM is not firing unvaccinated employees under its vaccination policy.
But those who choose not to be vaccinated will not get paid after Dec. 8 until they get their COVID-19 shots.
However, the company is allowing religious and medical exemptions for employees who are legitimately unable to get the vaccine.
