A South Florida household is outraged at North Miami Beach Police after mug photographs of African American males had been used at a taking pictures vary for police coaching.
It was an unusual Saturday morning final month when Sgt. Valerie Deant arrived on the taking pictures vary in Medley, or so she thought.
Deant, who performs clarinet with the Florida Army National Guard’s 13th Army Band, and her fellow troopers had been on the taking pictures vary for his or her annual weapons {qualifications} coaching.
What the troopers found once they entered the vary made them offended: mug photographs of African American males apparently used as targets by North Miami Beach Police snipers, who had used the vary earlier than the guardsmen.
Even extra startling for Deant, one of many photographs was her brother. It was Woody Deant’s mug shot that taken 15 years in the past, after he was arrested in connection to a drag race in 2000 that left two individuals useless. His mug shot was among the many footage of 5 minorities used as targets by North Miami Beach police, all of them riddled by bullets.
“I used to be like ‘why is my brother getting used for goal follow?'” Deant requested. Deant’s fellow guardsmen had been offended too, however they tried to console Deant, who was devastated.
“There were like gunshots there,” Deant stated. “And I cried a couple of times.” She instantly known as her brother, Woody Deant, who was 18 years previous when the image was taken.
“The picture actually has like bullet holes,” Woody Deant stated. “One in my brow and one in my eye. …I used to be speechless,” he added.
