Malaysia’s tourism, arts and tradition minister has revealed to German media that he doesn’t assume there are any gay people in his nation.

Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi reportedly made the declare on Tuesday whereas talking to media throughout a significant journey business commerce present in Berlin. When requested whether or not Malaysia is a secure place for gay vacationers, Mohamaddin reportedly responded: “Homosexuality? I feel we don’t have such a factor in our nation. Whether it is secure or not, I can not reply.”

++An aide to the minister reportedly stated that whereas Mohamaddin’s assertion was in line with the federal government’s stance to not acknowledge the LGBT neighborhood, it was his “private view.”

“Tourists coming to Malaysia like another nation are welcome no matter their creed, sexuality, faith or color,” the aide, who wished to stay nameless, told Free Malaysia Today.

Homosexuality is unlawful in the Muslim-majority nation and may be punished with up to 20 years in jail. In January, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad stated his authorities wouldn’t tolerate homosexuality, and the authorities has repeatedly dubbed same-sex marriage and different LGBT actions as “Western.”
