A company selling so-called bulletproof backpacks says they’re still available, but at least one New Jersey store has apparently pulled them from the shelves.
Office Depot recently sent a memo ordering the store to remove the controversial items from shelves, according to one store manager who received the notice.
No explanation was provided, said the manager, who citing company policy asked not to be identified.
It is not clear if the directive was specific to that individual store, or stores in New Jersey, or perhaps nationally.
A spokesperson for the Florida-based company did not respond to phone calls, an email and text message.
The Office Depot store manager said the now-pulled backpacks had been supplied by Guard Dog Security, with prices reportedly starting at $119. An email to the company on Monday was not immediately returned.
Guard Dog Security, though, posted to Facebook on Monday night that its backpacks remained available at Office Depot.
