In surveillance video, Allison Niemeyer is seen running through the store parking lot, followed by her sister, Laura. Police said they left behind Niemeyer’s 1-year-old son.
Police said the two women tried to swipe $57 worth of clothes from the Walmart on East Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala. But store security was onto them, and in surveillance video they confronted the pair just outside the exits.
Detectives said Niemeyer bolted, leaving behind her 1-year-old son.
“Once they were approached, you can see on the video clearly that the girl, the actual caregiver of the child, takes off running,” said Sgt. Chas Maier of the Ocala Police Department.
Police said Niemeyer sprinted across the lot with her sister close behind.
“When the loss prevention officer asked her, ‘Are you going to come get your child?’ she said, ‘It’s not my child.’ And she continued to leave, and they both abandoned the baby,” said Maier.
