The mother and father of one of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida occurred to be in El Paso on Saturday.

Manuel and Patricia Oliver, mother or father of Joaquin Oliver, were in city to unveil a memorial mural this weekend.

Both mother and father shared their response to the shooting at Walmart that has claimed at least 20 lives.

“You noticed what occurred right this moment and it might occur tomorrow in one other ‘most secure metropolis in the nation,’” Manuel Oliver stated. “So that is America, that is how we stay right here. We faux to have issues that we don’t have. We prefer to suppose that it’s a good nation, however it’s not.”

The Oliver household has been an advocate for gun legal guidelines following the 2018 tragedy in Florida. They repeated their stance on Saturday in El Paso.

“You need to talk about guns, right now. You cannot wait because ‘it is too early to talk about guns,’ and not say ‘thoughts and prayer’ as an answer. Don’t do that,” Manuel Oliver stated. “This advice is coming from the parents of a victim from Parkland.”
