“Ronald Reagan tore down this wall (the Fairness Doctrine) in 1987 … and Rush Limbaugh was the first man to proclaim himself liberated from the East Germany of liberal media domination.” 1
That’s not entirely true. The CIA liberated Rush.
Follow closely, if you dare, to find the truth to the last 20-some years of Rush Limbaugh blow-hearted spin, financed and backed by the CIA’s anti communist efforts in the 1980′s. It’s no mystery to people schooled in Cold War History that the pivotal case for capitalism rested on the United State’s ability to prove that free market capitalism beats communism vis-a-vis the USSR.
Reagan, and the oligarchs, had a lot of vested interest in convincing everyday Americans that capitalism and trickle down economics wins every time, especially when compared to communism or socialism–or any “ism” that acknowledges the need for governing and regulation.
In order to further their cause Reagan and the CIA worked hand-in-hand to find a solution to the creeping reality that was proving supply side economics to be the straw-man it was. They had to find a way to craft a message machine that would distribute conservative propaganda to Americans, a machine that would slowly, and nearly undetectably, modify people’s memories of recent political stances to fit with the current realities.
They methodically placed all the cogs in the propaganda machine in place, and 1987 was the year the the cogs went to work. The Fairness Doctrine was repealed, and Limbaugh went to work; working as a methodic psychological agent for the Republican party and the CIA to embolden whatever narrative the puppeteers of the GOP wanted.
- Here is another website that offers a similar take on the history of Rush Limbaugh and the CIA’s/Reagan’s efforts to shore up America’s image in the 1980′s
- Stop and consider this: it’s 2012, Rush Limbaugh still regularly speaks about the USSR — he was hired for one job, and cant’ help himself from retreating to old habits to energize his base
- In 2012 Mitt Romney (a candidate who couldn’t buy shoes if left to his own devices) remarks that Russia is our #1 enemy–a candidate who is known to have no personal principals or convictions, a candidate who relied entirely on “advisers” to craft his platform
- Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital, owns Clear Channel–i.e. Mitt Romney, who believes Russia is our #1 enemy, owns the company that employs Rush Limbaugh to bang the GOP’s drum, against Russia and the USSR.
Rush Limbaugh can be heard, on any given day, espousing the accolades of Reaganomics. Rush Tells us that Reagan, and his supply side economics forced the USSR to enter peace talks. According to Rush:
National Defense A strong USA defense brought down the Soviet Union. It was Ronald Reagan – first in a speech at Notre Dame University in May 1981, then his ‘Evil Empire’ speech of March 1983 – who most eloquently declared communism’s imminent demise. Reagan was right. And even Soviet officials attribute Ronald Reagan’s rhetoric and foreign policy to bringing down that ‘evil empire.’ By Christmas Day, 1990, the Soviet Union ceased to exist
Before Rush was selected to be the voice of all future GOP propaganda he was a miserable failure. He held jobs here and there in radio throughout the 1970′s. When he wasn’t able to find a job, he moved home–read that again, the personal responsibility guy moved back home. If you turn on the radio today to listen to Rush you’ll hear that taxes are too high, government is too big, and our military is too weak. Let’s look at Reaganomics versus today’s statistics to measure Rush to reality:
Look at top earners’ tax rates:
It’s pretty clear that tax rates are lower now than they were under Reagan. So the puppeteers that put Rush into place to slowly change people’s memories of policy are winning, because most Limbaugh fans think that President Obama has the highest taxes in history.
Is the government too big? Is central planning going to ruin us all? The GOP would have you think so but check out this chart:
This chart shows that the government is growing, but look at which party is responsible for the growth spikes since WWII. During Democratic control government increased slower than during Republican control. Rush Limbaugh tell us the opposite! His CIA handlers feed him talking points and propaganda to ensure the message is clear, even in the face of the contradictory evidence–aka REALITY.
AS for our military being too weak, take a look at this:
It’s clear if you listen to Rush you will hear the trappings of the old CIA/Reagan propaganda machine at work declaring that the US needs to decrease government size and regulation (opposite of Communist Central Controllers,) and increase the might of our military (a show of force to bring USSR to its knees)
Although this propaganda was useful to the GOP in the 1980′s, the CIA never created an effective exit strategy. Maybe they thought Americans would stop listening after their efforts wore off (that’s why they chose AM radio right when AM radio was in a rapid decline)
What they didn’t take into account was the effectiveness of their psychological warfare–given the unprecedented nature of MAD and nuclear war people were easily swayed.
More to come. Feel free to provide feedback and other sources. I’m furiously scouring the web for evidence. I haven’t pulled it all together yet, but it’s there.
