Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Republicans can avoid a change in Senate filibuster rules only if they confirm seven presidential appointees they’ve been blocking. Speaking to the liberal-leaning Center for American Progress, Reid said Monday that a partial deal to confirm fewer than those seven will not suffice.

The US Air Force has announced that many of its combat aircraft, including bombers and fighters, will start flying again on Monday after being grounded since April. “Since April we’ve been in a precipitous decline with regard to combat readiness,” Gen. Mike Hostage, commander of Air Combat Command, said in a statement. “Returning to flying is an important first step but what we have ahead of us is a measured climb to recovery.”

By GOSIA WOZNIACKA On a windy morning in California’s Salinas Valley, a tractor pulled a wheeled, metal contraption over rows of budding iceberg lettuce plants. Engineers from Silicon Valley tinkered with the software on a laptop to ensure the machine was eliminating the right leafy buds. The engineers were testing the Lettuce Bot, a machine that can “thin” a field of lettuce in the time it takes about 20 workers to do the job by hand.
A Rwandan woman living in New Hampshire was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Monday for obtaining her U.S. citizenship unlawfully by lying about her role in the 1994 genocide in her central African homeland. Beatrice Munyenyezi, 43, who has been in the United States since 1998, failed to disclose during her citizenship application that she had been a member of Rwanda’s ruling MRND party, which helped carry out the killing of some 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
My friend was arrested by police for filming the military training for martial law and urban assaults in Charlotte, NC. Clashes erupted Monday evening in Cairo’s downtown between police forces and hundreds of deposed president Mohamed Morsi supporters, who have been demanding the reinstatement of the former elected president. Eyewitnesses told Ahram Online that violence broke out after police forces fired teargas at pro-Morsi protesters to clear the Six of October Bridge above downtown’s Ramsis street, both of which were both blocked by the demonstrations.

By Rob Waugh Fleets of robotic space probes from alien civilisations could already have arrived in our solar system, a mathematical study has found. The study quotes scientists who warn that we may not be able to detect them with our technology – the probes may also be so hi-tech they can “conceal” themselves.
One police car was daubed with the words “Kill Pigz” as American flags were torched. “Kill Zimmerman” was also scrawled on the Alameda County Court. Following a wave of threats to riot in major cities if Zimmerman was cleared of all charges, trouble flared up almost immediately after the verdict was announced late last night.
Most Americans Still Don’t Know that Federal Reserve Banks Are Private Corporations The country’s most powerful “agency” – the Federal Reserve – is actually no more federal than Federal Express. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1928: Instrumentalities like the national banks or the federal reserve banks, in which there are private interests, are not departments of the government. They are private corporations in which the government has an interest.
By Alex Halperin Radley Balko’s new book, “Rise of the Warrior Cop,” details how America’s police forces have grown to look and behave more like soldiers than neighborly Officer Krupkes walking the beat. This new breed of police, frequently equipped with military weapons and decked out in enough armor to satisfy a storm trooper, are redefining law enforcement. How did this happen? For decades, the war on drugs has empowered police to act aggressively. More recently, 9/11 and school shootings enforced the notion that there’s no such thing as too much security.
(Let the riots begin) George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, has been found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter. The verdict is the culmination of a case that captured the nation’s attention and will undoubtedly be imprinted in America’s history. The not guilty verdict means the jury of six women found that Zimmerman justifiably used deadly force and reasonably believed that such force was “necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm” to himself— Florida’s definition of self-defense.
Former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden possesses dangerous information which could potentially lead to America’s “worst nightmare” if it is revealed, according to the journalist who first published Snowden’s leaked documents. “Snowden has enough information to cause more damage to the US government in a minute alone than anyone else has ever had in the history of the United States,” Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist responsible for publishing some of Snowden’s first leaks, told Argentina-based newspaper La Nación.
I could post a million screenshots of dumb ass people posting on social media websites talking about how they are going to rape white women, kill white people in hoodies, judge who provided not guilty, to riot just because… Now how dumb are these people posting this online. Number one; They are posing a risk to get investigated and even imprisoned by law enforcement just like how many others have been picked up for writing threats that were part a song and satire.. So why don’t these racial instigators don’t get in trouble? Maybe they are paid shills who stir…
